Germany 1945 1949

by Manfred Malzahn, Germany 1945 1949 Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Germany 1945 1949 books, The period 1945-1949 is generally acknowledged as a critical period for the German people and their collective history. But it did not, Manfred Malzahn argues, lead inevitably to the construction of the Berlin Wall. As in 1989, so in 1945 the German people were prepared to break away from established patterns, to reassess, if need be, what it meant to be German. Then, as now, Germans East and West wanted order and stability; food, shelter, clothing and work. Using numerous documents from the immediate post-war years, Malzahn rescues the period from the burden of selective hindsight and nostalgia that has obscured the contemporary situation. The documents, which have been fully annotated, reflect life at all levels from politics to fashion, and contain both Allied and German viewpoints. They are bound together by an emphasis on communication, on Allied/German interaction, and on the Germans' dialogue with their past and expressions of their aspirations.

by C. Kent Palmer, The Occupation Of Germany 1945 1949 Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The Occupation Of Germany 1945 1949 books, Much has been written about World War II, the reign of Adolph Hitler, and the persecution and annihilation of the Jewish people. But what happened in Germany after the war? In "The Occupation of Germany, 1945-1949," author C. Kent Palmer provides a firsthand account of the duties of the US troops in Germany following the conclusion of the war. The task was to keep Germany safe and secure and to assist in the rebuilding process. Palmer, who served with the US Army Military Police, describes Germany at that time as the Wild West of America. He explains the environment in which the young soldiers operated, presents some of the threats and dangers with which they were presented, and discusses some of the unique situations that occurred including stories about off-duty freedoms. Part history, part memoir, "The Occupation of Germany, 1945-1949" offers the firsthand viewpoint of one young American solider who served his country while helping another country to restructure after being defeated in a terrible war.

The Politics Of Culture In Soviet Occupied Germany 1945 1949

by David Pike, The Politics Of Culture In Soviet Occupied Germany 1945 1949 Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The Politics Of Culture In Soviet Occupied Germany 1945 1949 books, They allow for a painstaking analysis of the political and "aesthetic" priorities of a developing Stalinist culture while raising intriguing questions about the early stages of the Cold War and the subsequent division of Germany. In particular, the gradual introduction of Zhdanovist or socialist-realist political norms and aesthetic forms into Soviet-occupied Germany closely paralleled developments in the Soviet Union during the infamous zhdanovshchina (1946-1948). Smear campaigns against "formalism," "decadence," and "cosmopolitanism," carefully tailored to local circumstances, were the natural consequence. Simultaneously, the German Communists worked behind the scenes with the Soviet occupation regime to establish the administrative apparatus for the enforcement of these standards, imported from the Soviet Union and calculated to infuse German art and literature with the proper political priorities.

The Chinese Civil War 1945 1949

by Irmtraud Eve Burianek, The Chinese Civil War 1945 1949 Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The Chinese Civil War 1945 1949 books, Essay from the year 2010 in the subject Orientalism / Sinology - Chinese / China, grade: "-", , language: English, abstract: "One of the best Chinese Civil War books of all time" - BookAuthority The Chinese civil war is one of the key events of 20th century. The victory of the Communists over the Nationalists determined the Chinese history over several generations and defined international relations in East Asia throughout the Cold War era and after. The civil war in China represents not only the clashes of armies, but also of nations and classes. As all civil wars it represents furthermore a traumatic and painful process within a people with atrocities on both sides and horrendous suffering of combatants and civilians. The civil strife between the Nationalists and Communists on mainland China had begun in the 1920s, coming to a head right after the end of World War II in 1945, when the Communists began the successful drive that won them final control over China in October 1949. From then on China was under the rule of Mao’s Communist Party with one exception: Taiwan. The island southeast of mainland China was ruled by Chiang Kai-shek. Since 1949 the world has dealt with two Chinese states: the People’s Republic of China or PRC in mainland China under the Communists and the Republic of China or ROC in Taiwan under the Nationalists.
