Of Intense Brightness

by Francis I. Kyle, III, Of Intense Brightness Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Of Intense Brightness books, "Be uncommon Christians . . . that is, eminently holy, self-denying, cross-bearing, Bible, everyday Christians." So James Brainerd Taylor (1801–1829) encouraged others to be, and so he strived to be himself. Of Intense Brightness reveals aspects of Taylor's uncommon Christianity by allowing the Princeton and Yale-educated evangelist to speak for himself. By means of forty-five selected and edited letters and journal entries of Taylor's (written from ages fourteen to twenty-seven), readers will obtain a unique glimpse into the inner workings of an evangelical Protestant spirituality that was, according to nineteenth-century Princeton Seminary professor Samuel Miller, "so uniform, that we had only, as it were, one face, and that of intense brightness to behold."

An Uncommon Conversation

by Donald W. Gieschen, An Uncommon Conversation Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download An Uncommon Conversation books, SET UP: Donald W. Gieschen is the author of this piece and, with the exception of the small talk, all of what Don says in the substantive conversations in An Uncommon Conversation is autobiographically true of the author in the sense that what Don says both accurately relates events in the author’s life and honestly expresses the authors thoughts on the subjects being talked about. The lunches are fictional. Paul is a fictional character created to be part of the conversation. Don is a self-professed atheist. The fictitious friend, Paul, is slightly younger than Don, and is a believer. They were close friends in their youth, almost like brothers, and have continued their friendship at a distance over the past years with letters and occasional visits. Paul, as he is portrayed, is rather easy going. He is married with a family and is here visiting. He is alone, staying with his son and the son’s family who have just recently moved to Phoenix, Arizona. Don lives in near-by Tempe. Paul is curious and is especially interested in other people and their lives, though not in an uncomfortable nosey way, as you will see. He graduated from the University of Michigan. From there he started up and ran a successful consulting business specializing in the field of health-care. Don and Paul both served in the U. S. Navy during World War II. We encounter them conversing over lunch at a local restaurant. Don, who does most of the talking, talks about his life and a great deal about his reasons for rejecting any form of religious faith. The conversation then takes up the question of moral values and morality in what according to Don is a Godless universe. Don’s views on faith and on ethics derive from his study and teaching of philosophy, though the areas of religion and ethics were not the areas of philosophy in which he concentrated his study and research or his teaching. The conversation between these two friends, with daily breaks, spans a five-day period.

An Uncommon Union

by John D. Hannah, An Uncommon Union Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download An Uncommon Union books, Dallas Theological Seminary is often viewed as a bastion of conservative evangelicalism, marked by an unswerving devotion to theological positions of fundamentalism, biblical inerrancy, and dispensational premillennialism. An Uncommon Union, the first book-length history of Dallas Theological Seminary, written by a graduate and veteran faculty member of DTS, provides a necessary corrective to such a simplistic assessment. Using the tenures of the school’s five presidents as the backbone for his narrative, John D. Hannah reveals the tensions that DTS has experienced in its eighty-plus years of existence. Each successive president of DTS brought his own unique style and perceptions to the school, even as he dealt with the changing religious and cultural milieu that swirled around it. Hannah argues that, rather than being a monolithic institution, Dallas Theological Seminary is a unique blend of differing heritages and of opposing traditions, a place that defies easy categorization.A keenly insightful and thoughtful work, An Uncommon Union illuminates the path charted by the leaders of a prominent American seminary in a rapidly changing world. All readers interested in the history and future of evangelicalism, regardless of their theological persuasion, will benefit from this book.

Download The Mystical Life Of Jesus books, Startling new archaeological discoveries and such groundbreaking cultural phenomena as The Da Vinci Code and The Passion of the Christ have sparked a renaissance in impassioned controversies about religion and the life of Christ. Now, Sylvia Browne, with the help of her spiritual guide, delivers the truth about Him, His teachings, and His works for God as she answers such provocative questions as: - Was there a virgin birth? - Was there a Star of Bethlehem? - What did Jesus do for the first 30 years of his life? - What really happened at the crucifixion? - Was he married? Was he divine? - Is a Jesus lineage a possibility? In Browne's own words, the answers may "rattle the cages" of her millions of readers-answers that could only have come from someone who has visited the afterlife.
