Broken People

by Sam Lansky, Broken People Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Broken People books, Named one of the most anticipated books of the year by Vogue, O, The Oprah Magazine, Parade, Library Journal, Harper’s Bazaar and more “Profound and affecting.”—Chloe Benjamin “Broken People leads us through the winds of time and memory to offer a riveting portrait of transformation. I am better for having read it.”—Jamie Lee Curtis A groundbreaking, incandescent debut novel about coming to grips with the past and ourselves, for fans of Sally Rooney, Hanya Yanagihara and Garth Greenwell “He fixes everything that’s wrong with you in three days.” This is what hooks Sam when he first overhears it at a fancy dinner party in the Hollywood hills: the story of a globe-trotting shaman who claims to perform “open-soul surgery” on emotionally damaged people. For neurotic, depressed Sam, new to Los Angeles after his life in New York imploded, the possibility of total transformation is utterly tantalizing. He’s desperate for something to believe in, and the shaman—who promises ancient rituals, plant medicine and encounters with the divine—seems convincing, enough for Sam to sign up for a weekend under his care. But are the great spirits the shaman says he’s summoning real at all? Or are the ghosts in Sam’s memory more powerful than any magic? At turns tender and acid, funny and wise, Broken People is a journey into the nature of truth and fiction—a story of discovering hope amid cynicism, intimacy within chaos and peace in our own skin.

by Sheila Walsh, God Loves Broken People Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download God Loves Broken People books, The other side of brokenness "If I could write only one book in my lifetime, I would ask God to make it this one, the very book you now hold in your hands. . . ."?Sheila Walsh God loves broken people. And when weary, wounded men and women find a way to open their bruised hearts and somehow welcome Him into their personal darkness, they will find a love beyond anything they have ever known. When the glass house Sheila had lived in for so many years came crashing to the ground, she began a new life outside the safety of those walls. No, it didn't feel good, nor safe?not at all. But it felt true. Sheila saw herself as a broken lamb limping after the Shepherd, not knowing where He was going, but knowing that wherever He went, she wanted to go with Him. In twelve stirring, insightful, and deeply revealing chapters, Sheila Walsh shows how personal brokenness can open doors of intimacy with Jesus Christ that might never open in any other way. It's not that God loves broken people more than those who imagine themselves to be whole?it's simply that they know they are loved. They dare to believe it . . . and through such trust, a new wholeness emerges from yesterday's broken pieces.

A Body Broken For A Broken People

by Francis J. Moloney, S.D.B., A Body Broken For A Broken People Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download A Body Broken For A Broken People books, Francis J. Moloney’s A Body Broken for a Broken People has become a classic study of what the New Testament reveals about the Eucharistic practice of the early Church. Completely revised and extended to address contemporary pastoral issues in light of Pope Francis’s Synod on the Family, this substantially revised edition examines the New Testament’s discussion of divorce, remarriage, and access to the Eucharistic table. Through a close reading of the New Testament texts, Professor Moloney shows that, without fail, they indicate that the Eucharist is not a reward for the perfect, but God’s gracious nourishment for the weak.A Body Broken for a Broken People provides fresh insights from the Scriptures into the purpose of the Eucharist in the Christian community, Eucharistic hospitality, and especially what it means for those who have divorced and remarried. It is also an exemplary case study of courageously reading the New Testament with fresh eyes, and contributing exegetical insight to a responsible examination of the Church’s pastoral practices.

Broken Men

by Fiona Reid, Broken Men Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Broken Men books, Shell shock achieved a very high political profile in the years 1919-1922. Publications ranging from John Bull to the Morning Post insisted that shell-shocked men should be treated with respect, and the Minister for Health announced that the government was committed to protecting shell-shocked men from the stigma of lunacy. Yet at the same time, many mentally-wounded veterans were struggling with a pension system which was failing to give them security. It is this conflict between the political rhetoric and the lived experience of many wounded veterans that explains why the government was unable to dispel the negative wartime assessment of official shell-shock treatment. There was also a real conflict between the government's wish to forget shell shock whilst memorialising the war and remembering the war dead. As a result of these contradictions, shell shock was not forgotten, on the contrary, the shell-shocked soldier quickly grew to symbolise the confusions and inconsistencies of the Great War.
