Deification Through The Cross

by Khaled Anatolios, Deification Through The Cross Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Deification Through The Cross books, A unified soteriology for the whole church It is commonly claimed that Western Christianity teaches salvation as deliverance from sin through Jesus's sacrifice on the cross, while Eastern Christianity teaches salvation as deliverance from death--and as deification--through Christ's incarnation. But is it really true that there is no normative, unified doctrine of salvation to be found in Scripture and tradition? Theologian Khaled Anatolios, deeply grounded in both East and West, here expounds a soteriology that speaks deeply to all Christians. He argues that both Western and Eastern perspectives are needed, and especially that Eastern theology and liturgy, contrary to Western misperceptions, hold cross, resurrection, and glorification together in an exemplary way. Anatolios uses the phrase "doxological contrition" to suggest that the truth of salvation is found both in Jesus's perfect glorification of God and in his representative repentance for humanity's sinful rejection of its original calling to participate in the life of the Holy Trinity. Deification through the Cross is a salutary rebuttal of the postmodern fragmentation that assumes no single, normative soteriology can apply globally. Anatolios systematically expounds an integrated soteriology, which he then puts into dialogue with various perspectives, including liberation theology, Girardian theory, and penal substitution. All who seek to understand and teach "the joy of our salvation" will find indispensable help in this magisterial retrieval of an often-misunderstood doctrine.

A Korean Theology Of Human Nature

by Jung-Sun Oh, A Korean Theology Of Human Nature Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download A Korean Theology Of Human Nature books, This remarkable study articulates a Korean Confucian-Christian theory of human nature-theory of justification, sanctification, and salvation by means of a reformed concept of filial piety. The book investigates in depth the theological anthropology of Robert C. Neville and the inclusive humanism of Tu Wei-ming. Neville and Tu represent contemporary Christian and Confucian approaches to religious anthropology. Furthermore, they have engaged in an extended and productive dialogical encounter on the themes of comparative thought and religious renewal in Asia and North America. This book argues that Neville's and Tu's insights into human nature have great relevance for a comparative, contemporary Korean theology by focusing on the role of a reformed version of filial piety as a new component of Korean theology. The articulation of filial piety as a potential key of contemporary Korean theology is an example of creative appropriation of a Confucian theme of the Christian praxis of sanctification, and ultimately the soteriology of divine grace and transformation. This study construes human nature to be such that any living theology will reflect the creative engagement of Christian theologians as public intellectuals in search of the articulation of the gospel.

Theosis In The Theology Of Thomas Torrance

by Dr Myk Habets, Theosis In The Theology Of Thomas Torrance Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Theosis In The Theology Of Thomas Torrance books, Torrance's vision of Theosis (deification/divinisation) is explored through his doctrine of creation and anthropology, his characterisation of the incarnation, his accounts of reconciliation and union with Christ, and his theology of church and sacraments. Myk Habets' study distinguishes Torrance's Reformed vision of theosis from other possible accounts of salvation as divinisation as they are found, for instance, within patristic thought and Eastern Orthodoxy. This book presents the first critique of the theology of T.F.Torrance to focus on theosis, and examines a model of theosis within the realm of reformed theology built upon Western theology.

The Role Of Women S Experience In Feminist Theologies Of Atonement

by Linda D. Peacore, The Role Of Women S Experience In Feminist Theologies Of Atonement Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The Role Of Women S Experience In Feminist Theologies Of Atonement books, A strong critique of traditional atonement theology is found in the work of many contemporary feminist theologians. This approach, in large part, is related to the notion of women's experience--a category that is used widely within feminist theology. But what is women's experience and how does it affect feminist theology, particularly views on the atonement? The category of women's experience is pivotal to feminist theology, yet its use may lead to models of atonement that place excessive stress upon the subjective element of Christ's saving work thereby neglecting to address adequately the objective aspects of the cross. This book focuses on the methodological issues regarding the category of women's experience generally, its definition and use in feminist theology, with a more detailed analysis of its use in the context of feminist theologies of atonement. Utilizing the work of a wide variety of feminist theologians in conversation with theologies of experience, this work attempts to understand the role of women's experience as it shapes feminist views on the atonement, noting the strengths and limitations of feminist approaches to soteriology.

While the volume ranges through issues of canon, biblical theology and literary criticism, with several essays on the prophetic books, it maintains a clear focus on the numerous issues and challenges facing the contemporary interpreter of the scriptures.

The Gospel Of John And Christian Theology

by Richard Bauckham, The Gospel Of John And Christian Theology Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The Gospel Of John And Christian Theology books, In recent years, the disciplines of biblical studies and systematic theology have grown apart and largely lost the means of effective communication with one another. Unfortunately, this relational disconnect affects more than just these particular fields of study; it impacts the life of the church as a whole. The first St. Andrews Conference on Scripture and Theology brought leading biblical scholars and systematic theologians together in conversation, seeking to bridge the biblical-theological gap.
