The Catholic Youth Bible

by Saint Marys Press (NA), The Catholic Youth Bible Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The Catholic Youth Bible books, Catholic Young People are often shockingly illiterate--"biblically speaking! It's not uncommon for high school and university-age Catholics to be unfamiliar with reading the Bible, not knowing which books are in the Old Testament and which in the New, or how to look up character and verse. or what are the four Gospels. What must concern teachers, pastors and parents more than biblical illiteracy is the ignorance of biblical spirituality, but one can hardly experience biblical spirituality without reading the Bible! Since The Catholic Youth Bible was published in 2000, it has been the means for spreading an "ABC of biblical literacy": Access, Big picture, and Context. Access to the Bible comes with learning about the major types of books in the Bible, the names and general order of those books, and how to look up a passage by oneself. The Big Picture is the overall arc of the biblical story, salvation history. Context (social, religious, political, economic) is necessary to prevent falling victim to fundamentalist misinterpretations and misapplications. The new International edition of the CYB bring all these attractive features with commentary and sidebars that are more suitable than before for Canadian schools and homes, framing biblical issues in terms of contemporary and familiar social issues. Last but not least, the CYB is a joy to read!

C S Lewis On The Christ Of A Religious Economy 3 1

by P. H. Brazier, C S Lewis On The Christ Of A Religious Economy 3 1 Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download C S Lewis On The Christ Of A Religious Economy 3 1 books, C. S. Lewis--On the Christ of a Religious Economy I, Creation and Sub-Creation opens with Lewis on creation, the fall into original sin, and the human condition before God and how such an understanding permeated all his work, post-conversion. For Lewis, Christ, the second person of the Trinity, is the agent of creation and its redeemer. This leads into Lewis's representation through sub-creation: explaining salvation history and the purpose of the creation and the creature through story (The Chronicles of Narnia, The Space Trilogy, Screwtape, etc.), but also the question of multiple incarnations, and the encounters he pens between Aslan-Christ and creatures. What does this tell us about the human predicament and our state after the fall? This volume forms the first part of the third book in a series of studies on the theology of C. S. Lewis titled C. S. Lewis: Revelation and the Christ. The books are written for academics and students, but also, crucially, for those people, ordinary Christians, without a theology degree who enjoy and gain sustenance from reading Lewis's work.

Are The Lips A Grave

by Lynne Huffer, Are The Lips A Grave Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Are The Lips A Grave books, Lynne Huffer's ambitious inquiry redresses the rift between feminist and queer theory, traversing the space of a new, post-moral sexual ethics that includes pleasure, desire, connection, and betrayal. She begins by balancing queer theorists' politics of sexual freedoms with a moralizing feminist politics that views sexuality as harm. Drawing on the best insights from both traditions, she builds an ethics centered on eros, following Michel Foucault's ethics as a practice of freedom and Luce Irigaray's lyrical articulation of an ethics of sexual difference. Through this theoretical lens, Huffer examines everyday experiences of ethical connection and failure connected to sex, including queer sexual practices, sodomy laws, interracial love, pornography, and work-life balance. Her approach complicates sexual identities while challenging the epistemological foundations of subjectivity. She rethinks ethics "beyond good and evil" without underestimating, as some queer theorists have done, the persistence of what Foucault calls the "catastrophe" of morality. Elaborating a thinking-feeling ethics of the other, Huffer encourages contemporary intellectuals to reshape sexual morality from within, defining an ethical space that is both poetically suggestive and politically relevant, both conceptually daring and grounded in common sexual experience.
