Download Egypt And Beyond books, "In June of 2005, Leonard Lesko retired after 23 years as Wilbour Professor and Chairman of the Department of Egyptology at Brown University. In recognition of his many contributions to the field of Egyptology, 24 colleagues from around the world, and from several fields of ancient studies, contributed articles to a festschrift in his honor. The contributions to the festschrift are as wide-ranging as are Leonard's interests. Contributions discuss ancient Egyptian religion and religious texts, Egyptian grammar, history, art, and archaeology. There are also contributions from the fields of classics, Near Eastern archaeology, and a study of Middle Iranian texts from the Bancroft Library of the University of California at Berkeley (where Leonard began his career in Egyptology)."

Pharaoh S Land And Beyond

by Pearce Paul Creasman, Pharaoh S Land And Beyond Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Pharaoh S Land And Beyond books, The concept of pharaonic Egypt as a unified, homogeneous, and isolated cultural entity is misleading. Ancient Egypt was a rich tapestry of social, religious, technological, and economic interconnections among numerous cultures from disparate lands. This volume uniquely examines Egypt'srelationship with its wider world through fifteen chapters arranged in five thematic groups. The first three chapters detail the geographical contexts of interconnections through examination of ancient Egyptian exploration, maritime routes, and overland passages. The next three chapters address thehuman principals of association: peoples, with the attendant difficulties differentiating ethnic identities from the record; diplomatic actors, with their complex balances and presentations of power; and the military, with its evolving role in pharaonic expansion. Natural events, too, playedsignificant roles in the pharaonic world: geological disasters, the effects of droughts and floods on the Nile, and illness and epidemics all delivered profound impacts, as is seen in the third section. Physical manifestations of interconnections between pharaonic Egypt and its neighbors in the formof objects are the focus of the fourth set: trade, art and architecture, and a specific case study of scarabs. The final section discusses in depth perhaps the most powerful means of interconnection: ideas. Whether through diffusion and borrowing of knowledge and technology, through the flow of words by script and literature, or through exchanges in the religious sphere, the pharaonic Egypt that we know today was constantly changing - and changing the cultures around it.

Pursuing Inclusive Higher Education In Egypt And Beyond Through The Convention On The Rights Of Persons With Disabilities

by Janet E. Lord, Pursuing Inclusive Higher Education In Egypt And Beyond Through The Convention On The Rights Of Persons With Disabilities Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Pursuing Inclusive Higher Education In Egypt And Beyond Through The Convention On The Rights Of Persons With Disabilities books, Abstract: Inclusive higher education is elusive for students with disabilities, especially in developing countries. The adoption and rapid ratification of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) provides, if applied as its drafters intended, a "whole of institution" framework for its realization (CRPD Committee, 2016). Myriad legal, attitudinal, physical, and communication-based barriers limit or exclude participation. The individual impact of such discrimination is clear and carries lifelong consequences. Equally endemic are the broad societal and pedagogical effects of this exclusion. To illustrate: preventing persons with disabilities from Teacher Education courses impacts inclusive education in primary and secondary education; barring people with disabilities from academic programs in the sciences stifles innovation in assistive technology, health, and rehabilitation; and limiting access to studying the humanities hampers the emergence of disability studies as a

The Christian Epigraphy Of Egypt And Nubia

by Jacques van der Vliet, The Christian Epigraphy Of Egypt And Nubia Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The Christian Epigraphy Of Egypt And Nubia books, The present book collects 31 articles that Jacques van der Vliet, a leading scholar in the field of Coptic Studies (Leiden University / Radboud University, Nijmegen), has published since 1999 on Christian inscriptions from Egypt and Nubia. These inscriptions are dated between the third/fourth and the fourteenth centuries, and are often written in Coptic and/or Greek, once in Latin, and sometimes (partly) in Arabic, Syriac or Old Nubian. They include inscriptions on tomb stones, walls of religious buildings, tools, vessels, furniture, amulets and even texts on luxury garments. Whereas earlier scholars in the field of Coptic Studies often focused on either Coptic or Greek, Van der Vliet argues that inscriptions in different languages that appear in the same space or on the same kind of objects should be examined together. In addition, he aims to combine the information from documentary texts, archaeological remains and inscriptions, in order to reconstruct the economic, social and religious life of monastic or civil communities. He practiced this methodology in his studies on the Fayum, Wadi al-Natrun, Sohag, Western Thebes and the region of Aswan and Northern Nubia, which are all included in this book.
