Eschatologie Eschatology

by Hans-Joachim Eckstein, Eschatologie Eschatology Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. The authors of the contributions in this volume interpret statements of the New Testament concerning the final things as opposed to all things provisional in historical, exegetical, and hermeneutical investigations. The various eschatological ideas elucidate at the same time basic theological decisions. In all these texts, the relationship between eschatological ideas and the Christ-event is decisive. The understanding of time and history with regard to its end, the question of the resurrection and judgment, the final reconciliation and divine community as well as the intense contemporary eschatological existence are related issues. The individual, the universal, and the cosmic dimensions of eschatology are developed in such a way that their theological significance is illuminated in the light of their tradition-historical and religio-historical background.

Eschatology In Genesis

by Jonathan Huddleston, Eschatology In Genesis Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Eschatology In Genesis books, In this study, Jonathan Huddleston examines Genesis as a rhetorical whole, addressing Persian-era Judean expectations. While some have contrasted Genesis' account of origins with prophetic accounts of the future, literary and historical evidence suggests that Genesis narrates Israel's origins precisely in order to ground Judea's hopes for an eschatological restoration. Promises to the ancestors semiotically apply to those who preserved, composed, and received the text of Genesis. Judea imagines its mythic destiny as a great nation exemplifying and spreading blessing among the families of the earth. Genesis' vision of Israel's destiny coheres with the postexilic prophetic eschatology, identifying Israel as a precious seed to carry forward promises of a yet-to-be-realized creation fruitfulness.

Troeltsch S Eschatological Absolute

by Evan F. Kuehn, Troeltsch S Eschatological Absolute Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Troeltsch S Eschatological Absolute books, Ernst Troeltsch is widely recognized as having played an important role in the development of modern Protestant theology, but his contribution is usually understood as largely critical of traditional modes of theological inquiry. He is best known for his historicist critique of dogmatic theology, and seen either as the closing chapter of nineteenth-century liberalism, or as a proto-postmodernist. Central to this pivotal period in modern theology stands the problem: how can we articulate a doctrine of ultimate reality such that a meaningful and coherent account of the world is available without our understanding of God thereby becoming conditioned by the world itself? Evan Kuehn demonstrates that historiographical assumptions about twentieth-century religious thought have obscured the coherence and relevance of Troeltsch's understanding of God, history, and eschatology. An eschatological understanding of the Absolute, Kuehn contends, stands at the heart of Troeltsch's theology and the problem of historicism with which it is faced. Troeltsch's eschatological Absolute must be understood in the context of questions that were being raised at the turn of the twentieth century both by research on New Testament apocalypticism, and by modern critical methodologies in the historical sciences. His theory of the Absolute is central to his views on religion and religious ethics and provides practitioners of constructive studies in religion with important resources for engaging with sociological and historical studies, where Troeltsch's status as a classical figure is widely recognized.

Resurrection Realism

by Patrick J. Fletcher, Resurrection Realism Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Resurrection Realism books, In Resurrection Realism, Patrick Fletcher examines the key role played by Joseph Ratzinger, later Pope Benedict XVI (2005-2013), in the lively twentieth-century debates over the resurrection. Since Ratzinger has repeatedly claimed to be a follower of Augustine of Hippo, whose theology of resurrection has been so significant in Western Christianity, this book begins by identifying the key characteristics of that theology before studying Ratzinger's theology of resurrection in detail, examining the original sources of both Ratzinger and his German interlocutors, in order to paint the clearest picture to date of Ratzinger's thought on the resurrection. Some issues dealt with include: the development of Ratzinger's thought, the question of Augustinian duality and Thomistic hylomorphism, the salvation of matter, and the nature and identity of the risen body.

Eschatology

by Benedict XVI, Eschatology Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Eschatology books, Originally published in English in 1988, Joseph Ratzinger's Eschatology remains internationally recognized as a leading text on the "last things"—heaven and hell, purgatory and judgment, death and the immortality of the soul. This highly anticipated second edition includes a new preface by Joseph Ratzinger/Pope Benedict XVI and a supplement to the bibliography by theologian Peter A. Casarella. Eschatology presents a balanced perspective of the doctrine at the center of Christian belief—the Church's faith in eternal life. Recognizing the task of contemporary eschatology as "to marry perspectives, so that person and community, present and future, are seen in their unity," Joseph Ratzinger brings together recent emphasis on the theology of hope for the future with the more traditional elements of the doctrine. His book has proven to be as timeless as it is timely.

Remembrance Of Things Past

by Michael J. Thate, Remembrance Of Things Past Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Remembrance Of Things Past books, In this book, Michael J. Thate offers an experiment in reception criticism in its consideration of the formation and reception of the historical Jesus discourse. He also attempts to historicize Leben-Jesu-Forschung within debates and narratives of secularization. These two foci guide the book through its two parts. First Thate explicates Schweitzer's dominant archival function in Leben-Jesu-Forschung, while aiming to make fragile the "grand architect's" receptive hegemony. Then he combines critical memory theory and other theoretical readings of the material in an attempt to refocus the study of the historical Jesus as early Christian memory politics in the service of identity explication. He attempts to problematize Schweitzer's legacy of a tidy systematic approach in which much of historical Jesus scholarship continues to operate.

by Geoffrey Wainwright, Eucharist And Eschatology Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Eucharist And Eschatology books, Pulling together themes from 20th-century theology, this text discusses how, from scripture, tradition and practice, the Lord's Supper is shown to epitomize the Christian vision of the final ends for the individual, the Church, human society and the entire cosmos. At the same time however, at the beginning of the 21st century, just as in the past, people are posing major questions about existence. The debate is contained within.
