Poetics Of The Flesh

by Mayra Rivera, Poetics Of The Flesh Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Poetics Of The Flesh books, In Poetics of the Flesh Mayra Rivera offers poetic reflections on how we understand our carnal relationship to the world, at once spiritual, organic, and social. She connects conversations about corporeality in theology, political theory, and continental philosophy to show the relationship between the ways ancient Christian thinkers and modern Western philosophers conceive of the "body" and "flesh.” Her readings of the biblical writings of John and Paul as well as the work of Tertullian illustrate how Christian ideas of flesh influenced the works of Maurice Merleau-Ponty and Michel Foucault, and inform her readings of Judith Butler, Frantz Fanon, and others. Rivera also furthers developments in new materialism by exploring the intersections among bodies, material elements, social arrangements, and discourses through body and flesh. By painting a complex picture of bodies, and by developing an account of how the social materializes in flesh, Rivera provides a new way to understand gender and race.

The Greatest Letter Ever Written

by French L. Arrington, The Greatest Letter Ever Written Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The Greatest Letter Ever Written books, "From studying Paul's letter to the Romans, we can learn the content of the Christian faith like nowhere else in the New Testament. Paul's words are loaded with divine truth and require careful study and thought. Indeed the letter to the Romans is a theological jewel, but Paul's discussions in the letter are sensible and practical. "As the name of the letter indicates, Paul wrote it to a church in a city known as Rome. At the same time without knowing it, he wrote it to the whole world and for all the ages, supporting the efforts of cross-cultural ministry and providing a key to understanding the Bible. So even though this great letter was addressed to the saints in Rome during the first century, its message is eternal, and its mandates are universal." -French L. Arrington

The God Who Lives

by Adam Pryor, The God Who Lives Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The God Who Lives books, Christian theology has affirmed throughout its history that God is a living God. But what does it mean that God lives? Why does it matter? Does God live like us? If God does not live like us what is the difference between our living and God's living? These are the questions Adam Pryor addresses in The God Who Lives. The book considers life as a conceptual problem, examining how new studies about the emergence of life have critical implications for interpreting the religious symbol God is living. In particular, Pryor suggests how absence and desire, what is termed abstential desire, are critical principles of life for scientific and philosophical thinking today. He goes on to develop a constructive theological proposal in which the theological meaning of the symbol God is living is interpreted in terms of the insights garnered from the principle of abstential desire, concluding that God can be understood as akin to the role played by absence in living things. Life is an absent but effective whole in relation to the material parts of which it is comprised. God as living is a similarly effective absence in relation to the world.
