Geometric Symmetry In Patterns And Tilings

by C E Horne, Geometric Symmetry In Patterns And Tilings Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Geometric Symmetry In Patterns And Tilings books, This book explores a wide range of mathematical concepts relating to regularly repeating surface decoration and provides a comprehensive means of classifying patterns and tilings. It covers issues from basic concepts of symmetry to more complex issues such as graph theory, group theory, and topology. Although the primary focus is on the characteristics of surface-pattern designs, the material addresses all types of surface designs, including textiles, wallpapers, and building and wrapping materials. The author elaborately illustrates the concepts, thereby rendering this complex area-previously best understood by mathematicians and crystallographers-accessible to artists and designers.

Symmetry

by István Hargittai, Symmetry Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Symmetry books, International Series in Modern Applied Mathematics and Computer Science, Volume 10: Symmetry: Unifying Human Understanding provides a tremendous scope of “symmetry , covering subjects from fractals through court dances to crystallography and literature. This book discusses the limits of perfection, symmetry as an aesthetic factor, extension of the Neumann-Minnigerode-Curie principle, and symmetry of point imperfections in solids. The symmetry rules for chemical reactions, matching and symmetry of graphs, mosaic patterns of H. J. Woods, and bilateral symmetry in insects are also elaborated. This text likewise covers the crystallographic patterns, Milton's mathematical symbol of theodicy, symmetries of soap films, and gapon formalism. This volume is a good source for researchers and specialists concerned with symmetry.

Geometric Crystallography

by P. Engel, Geometric Crystallography Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Geometric Crystallography books, In the last decade mathematical crystallography has found increasing interest. Siginificant results have been obtained by algebraic, geometric, and group theoretic methods. Also classical crystallography in three-dimen sional Euclidean space has been extended to higher dimen sions in order to understand better the dimension independent crystallographic properties. The aim of this note is to introduce the reader to the fascinating and rich world of geometric crystallography. The prerequisites for reading it are elementary geometry and topological notations, and basic knowledge of group theory and linear algebra. Crystallography is geometric by its nature. In many cases, geometric arguments are the most appropriate and can thus best be understood. Thus the geometric point of view is emphasized here. The approach is axiomatic start ing from discrete point sets in Euclidean space. Symmetry comes in very soon and plays a central role. Each chapter starts with the necessary definitions and then the subject is treated in two- and three-dimensional space. Subsequent sections give an extension to higher dimensions. Short historical remarks added at the end of the chapters will show the development of the theory. The chapters are main ly self-contained. Frequent cross references, as well as an extended subject index, will help the reader who is only interested in a particular subject.

Intelligent Computer Graphics 2010

by Dimitri Plemenos, Intelligent Computer Graphics 2010 Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Intelligent Computer Graphics 2010 books, Nowadays, intelligent techniques are more and more used in Computer Graphics in order to optimise the processing time, to find more accurate solutions for a lot of Computer Graphics problems, than with traditional methods, or simply to find solutions in problems where traditional methods fail. The purpose of this volume is to present current work of the Intelligent Computer Graphics community, a community growing up year after year. This volume is a kind of continuation of the previously published Springer volumes “Artificial Intelligence Techniques for Computer Graphics” (2008) and “Intelligent Computer Graphics 2009” (2009). This volume contains selected extended papers from the last 3IA Conference (3IA’2010), which has been held in Athens (Greece) in May 2010. This year papers are particularly exciting and concern areas like rendering, viewpoint quality, data visualisation, vision, computational aesthetics, scene understanding, intelligent lighting, declarative modelling, GIS, scene reconstruction and other important themes.
