Luke S Literary Creativity

by Mogens Müller, Luke S Literary Creativity Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Luke S Literary Creativity books, A combination of two classic discussions in New Testament scholarship, the contributions in this volume shed light on the still unsolved synoptic problem by using the well-coined concept of rewriting to describe the relationship between the synoptic gospels. The contributions work with the hypothesis that the synoptic tradition can be conceived of as a process of rewriting: Matthew rewrote Mark and Luke rewrote Mark and Matthew. This approach to the synoptic problem dismantles the grounds for the otherwise widely accepted two-source theory. If it can be shown that Luke knew Matthew's Gospel the Q-hypothesis is superfluous. One group of articles focuses on the general question of Luke's literary relation to the other gospels. In these essays, the concept of rewriting describes Luke's use of his sources. The second part of the collection examines a number of texts in order to shown how Luke rewrites specific passages. In the final section the contributions concern Luke's relation to Roman authorities. It is shown that Luke's literary creativity is not limited to his predecessors in the gospel tradition. Rewriting is his literary strategy.

Synoptic Problems

by John S. Kloppenborg, Synoptic Problems Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Synoptic Problems books, This volume contains a collection of twenty-one essays of John S. Kloppenborg, with four foci: conceptual and methodological issues in the Synoptic Problem; the Sayings Gospel Q; the Gospel of Mark; and the Parables of Jesus. Kloppenborg, a major contributor to the Synoptic Problem, is especially interested in how one constructs synoptic hypotheses, always aware of the many gaps in our knowledge, the presence of competing hypotheses, and the theological and historical entailments in any given hypothesis. Common to the essays in the remaining three sections is the insistence that the literature, thought and practices of the early Jesus movement must be treated with a deep awareness of their social, literary, and intellectual contexts. The context of the early Jesus movement is illumined not simply by resort to the literary and historical sources produced by Greek and Roman elites but, more importantly, by data gathered from documentary sources available in non-literary papyri.

The First Gospel

by Arland D. Jacobson, The First Gospel Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The First Gospel books, The first gospel was not one of the four canonical gospels. It was probably Q, an early collection of Jesus' sayings used by Matthew and Luke to create their gospels. Q does not mention Jesus' death and resurrection, and it contains no birth or childhood stories. In Q, Jesus is pictured as a prophetic sage. The First Gospel provides a comprehensive introduction to the Q hypothesis. The author reviews and augments the arguments for the existence of Q. He concludes that the Q document was not merely a miscellaneous collection of sayings of Jesus that served as a source for Matthew and Luke. He sees it as a gospel in its own right, with its own history and own quite distinctive theology.

The Sayings Source Q And The Historical Jesus

by Andreas Lindemann, The Sayings Source Q And The Historical Jesus Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The Sayings Source Q And The Historical Jesus books, This volume includes about thirty contributions to the 49th Colloquium Biblicum Lovaniense, held in July 2000 in Leuven. The authors represent the contemporary state of the scholarly discussion in Europe and North America on the sayings source Q, in connection to actual problems of the quest of the historical Jesus. The contributions show different positions on the historical and exegetical problems though almost all of them are accepting the Q-hypothesis. Some of the articles are devoted to the text and theology of the Q-source (or Q-gospel) as a whole, others deal with more special questions of the language, or the historical background or context, or the situation of the Q-community. Some of the contributions give interpretations of important particular text-passages, including parables and miracle-stories. The volume gives a good overview of the progress of the discussion and research on Q since the Leuven colloquium in 1981.

The Gospel Of Jesus

by William Reuben Farmer, The Gospel Of Jesus Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The Gospel Of Jesus books, William Farmer has devoted much of his career to addressing the question of the relationship among the three Synoptic Gospels--Matthew, Mark, and Luke. In particular, Farmer has challenged the Two Source Hypothesis, which says that Mark is the earliest Gospel, and that Matthew and Luke used Mark and another document, called "Q," as the two primary sources for their own Gospels. Instead, Farmer argues that Matthew was the Earliest Gospel, that Luke used Matthew and other traditions known to him, and that Mark used both Matthew and Luke in compiling a shorter, more ecumenical account of Jesus' career. This competing theory is called the Two Gospel Hypothesis.

The Significance Of Interpersonal Forgiveness In The Gospel Of Matthew

by Isaac K. Mbabazi, The Significance Of Interpersonal Forgiveness In The Gospel Of Matthew Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The Significance Of Interpersonal Forgiveness In The Gospel Of Matthew books, Isaac Mbabazi makes a major contribution to the field of New Testament by arguing that the relevant Matthean theme of interpersonal forgiveness is quite central to the first Gospel. In The Significance of Interpersonal Forgiveness in the Gospel of Matthew, he delineates five sets of evidence in support of his argument. Beginning with a survey of all Matthean forgiveness and forgiveness-related texts, he then carries out an in-depth exegesis of two key Matthean texts in which the idea of interpersonal forgiveness is explicit. Discourse analysis informs his discussion, offering valuable insight into Matthew's point of view. Mbabazi notes that the forgiveness pattern that emerges from contemporary Greco-Roman literature differs remarkably from the pattern found in Matthew, where granting forgiveness appears not only as a reasonable act, but reluctance or failure to grant it makes the unforgiving person accountable to God.
