The Oie Global Conference On Aquatic Animal Health Bergen Norway 9 12 October 2006

by Betty Dodet, The Oie Global Conference On Aquatic Animal Health Bergen Norway 9 12 October 2006 Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The Oie Global Conference On Aquatic Animal Health Bergen Norway 9 12 October 2006 books, Aquaculture is one of the fastest growing industries globally; its production volume currently represents over 40% of all fisheries and within a few years will surpass that of traditional fisheries. New species and methodologies contribute to the fact that new emerging diseases are increasingly being discovered within this field, and aquatic animal welfare issues are only just beginning to be considered. This OIE Global Conference on Aquatic Animal Health was an opportunity for the OIE and its Member Countries to help build a framework for improved involvement and cooperation between the authorities (Veterinary and Fish Health, Fisheries and Environment), the scientific community and the private sector on aquatic animal health and welfare; help clarify the roles and responsibilities of all stakeholders in the process of early disease detection, rapid response and reporting; help increase aquatic animal health emergency response capabilities; exchange information on emerging diseases and animal welfare issues; help develop a science-based approach to the management of aquatic animal health and welfare; and present the valuable experience gained in the past few years. Following the presentations and discussions, recommendations were developed to better define roles and responsibilities and to assist in the evaluation and improvement of the current standards and guidelines for better control of infectious aquatic animal health, and the preparedness of countries for aquatic animal disease emergencies.

State Of World Aquaculture 2006

by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. Inland Water Resources and Aquaculture Service, State Of World Aquaculture 2006 Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download State Of World Aquaculture 2006 books, Aquaculture is developing, expanding and intensifying in almost all regions of the world, except in sub-Saharan Africa. Although the sector appears to be capable of meeting the gap between future demand and supply for aquatic food, there are many constraints and challenges which must be addressed in order to at least maintain the present level of per capita consumption at the global level. Key issues are the need for enhanced enforcement of regulation and better governance of the sector, as well as greater producer participation in the decision-making and regulation process. This publication examines past trends in aquaculture development as well as the current global status, drawing on a number of national and regional reviews.

Download Report Of The Inception Workshop Of The Fao Extrabudgetary Programme On Fisheries And Aquaculture For Poverty Alleviation And Food Security books, This Workshop was held to generate inputs and guidance to the contents and process of developing an assistance programme for fisheries and aquaculture. The programme's overall goal is to ensure that responsible and sustainable use of fisheries and aquaculture resources make an appreciable contribution to human well-being, food security and poverty alleviation. The workshop stressed the need to include fisheries and aquaculture, especially the small-scale subsectors, into poverty alleviation, food security and disaster risk reduction policies and programmes. These should be informed by a human rights approach to development. The challenges to advance the poverty alleviation and food security agendas are considerable. Concerted efforts and partnerships at different levels and scales are needed and interventions should be firmly anchored in the regional, national and local context. It is vital to build up national and local ownership in accordance with the Paris Declaration and this should be a key requirement for the inception phase and beyond.

Disaster Response And Risk Management In The Fisheries Sector

by Lena Westlund, Disaster Response And Risk Management In The Fisheries Sector Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Disaster Response And Risk Management In The Fisheries Sector books, In order to provide adequate disaster response in emergency situations and to help communities to be better prepared and warned of potential threats through preventive disaster risk management (DRM), it is imperative that the particular characteristics of the fisheries and aquaculture sectors and the livelihood contexts of small-scale fishers and fish farmers and their communities be clearly understood from the technical, social and economic points of view. Disasters cause serious disruption to communities, their governments and society as a whole. In many cases the rehabilitation and reconstruction process necessitates external assistance to guarantee return to basic livelihoods as quickly as possible. Therefore one of the main purposes of this document is to support policy- and decision-makers involved in disaster response and DRM by increasing their effectiveness in addressing the needs of fishers and coastal communities in relation to disasters.
