Stoned Moon

by Jaklyn Babington, Stoned Moon Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Stoned Moon books, In 1969, Robert Rauschenberg was invited by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to witness the launch of the Apollo 11 mission to place man on the moon for the first time. At the end of a decade in which the war in Vietnam and social turmoil in America had left him disillusioned, this scientific and technological marvel gave the artist new hope for the future. That year, in response to the Apollo 11 achievement, and in collaboration with the Gemini GEL print workshop, Rauschenberg created the Stoned Moon series--the title reflecting both the lithographic medium and the moon mission. This publication includes the full Stoned Moon series of 35 lithographs and discusses them in the context of the Apollo 11 mission as well as Rauschenberg's experimental and groundbreaking printmaking techniques. Jaklyn Babingtonis assistant curator of international prints at the National Gallery of Australia.

The Political Economy Of Art

by Julie F. Codell, The Political Economy Of Art Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The Political Economy Of Art books, "Political economy is defined in this volume as collective state or corporate support for art and architecture in the public sphere intended to be accessible to the widest possible public, raising questions about the relationship of the state to cultural production and consumption. This collection of essays explores the political economy of art from the perspective of the artist or from analysis of art's production and consumption, emphasizing the art side of the relationship between art and state. This volume explores art as public good, a central issue in political economy. Essays examine specific cultural spaces as points of struggle between economic and cultural processes. Essays focus on three areas of conflict: theories of political economy put into practices of state cultural production, sculptural and architectural monuments commissioned by state and corporate entities, and conflicts and critiques of state investments in culture by artists and the public."--amazon.com edit. desc.

Download Apollo S Muse books, p.p1 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 14.0px Verdana} On July 20, 1969, half a billion viewers around the world watched as the first television footage of American astronauts on the moon was beamed back to earth—a thrilling turning point in the history of images, satisfying an age-old curiosity about our planet’s only natural satellite. To celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing, this captivating volume surveys the role photography has played in the scientific study and artistic interpretation of the moon from the dawn of the medium to the present, highlighting not only stunning photographic works but also related prints, drawings, paintings, and astronomical instruments. Apollo’s Muse traces the history of lunar photography, from newly discovered daguerreotypes of the 1840s to contemporary film and video works. Along the way, it explores nineteenth century efforts to map the lunar surface, whimsical fantasies of life on the moon, the visual language of the Cold War space race, and work created in response to the moon landing by artists such as Robert Rauschenberg, Nancy Graves, and Aleksandra Mir. A delightful introduction by Tom Hanks, star of the award winning 1995 film Apollo 13, delves into the universal fascination with representations of the cosmos and the ways in which space travel has radically expanded the limits of human vision.

Download Ad Astra An Illustrated Guide To Leaving The Planet books, 'I could have done with a copy of Ad Astra in December 2015!' –Tim Peake ‘A wonderful, wise and witty guide for space explorers everywhere.' – Richard Osman ‘A must read both for intrepid space explorers and misty-eyed dreamers. Now, to space!’ – Hannah Fry ‘Few people are more knowledgeable, celebratory and witty about space travel than Dallas Campbell.’ – Adam Rutherford Need some space? For almost all human history we’ve been firmly rooted to the Earth. And, sure, it's got some good things going for it: nice views, friendly inhabitants, good coffee. Air. But what if you want to get off? Whether you've got itchy feet and need a bit of a break, or you’re looking for a complete change of scene, this book has all the information you'll need to leave, with FREE expert advice from the men and woman who can actually make it happen. Do I need a passport? How do I know if I have the right stuff? Can I take my dog? What spacesuit do I need? Where am I going to go? What am I going to eat? As well as being a deeply impractical guide to getting off the planet, this is an eclectic and beautifully illustrated mix-tape of space travel stories – both real and imagined. From the migrating lunar geese that flew us to the moon in the 1600’s, to Elon Musk’s wild plan to get humans to Mars en masse in the future; from the history of early rocket science to the Soviet tortoises that secretly won the space race. A collection for anyone who has looked up in wonder at the stars... And then wondered how to get there. ‘The next best thing to actually heading off into space.’ – Jim Al-Khalili ‘Few people are more knowledgeable, celebratory and witty about space travel than Dallas Campbell.’ – Adam Rutherford ‘If, like me, you dream of going into space, this is definitely the place to start the journey.’ – Dan Snow ‘A must have volume for astronauts and armchair astronauts alike.’ – Helen Sharman OBE ‘Funny, factual and beautiful.’ – Shaun Keavney ‘Read it, make notes, and be ready when the day comes.’ – Helen Czerski
