The Hebrew Bible In Light Of The Dead Sea Scrolls

by Armin Lange, The Hebrew Bible In Light Of The Dead Sea Scrolls Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The Hebrew Bible In Light Of The Dead Sea Scrolls books, Until recently, most non-biblical manuscripts attested in the Qumran library were regarded as copies of texts that were composed after the books of the Hebrew Bible were written. Students of the Hebrew Bible found the Dead Sea Scrolls therefore mostly of interest for the textual and interpretative histories of these books. The present collection confirms the importance of the Dead Sea Scrolls for both areas, by showing that they have revolutionized our understanding of how the text of the biblical books developed and how they were interpreted. Beyond the textual and interpretative histories, though, many texts attested in the Qumran library illuminate the time in which the later books of the Hebrew Bible were composed and reworked as well as Jewish life and law in the time when the canon of the Hebrew Bible developed. This volume gives important examples as to how the early texts attested in the Dead Sea Scrolls help to better understand individual biblical books and as to how the later texts among them illustrate Jewish life and law when the canon of the Hebrew Bible evolved. In order to find an adequate expertise for the seminar »The Dead Sea Scrolls and the Hebrew Bible«, the editors invited both junior and senior specialists in the fields of Hebrew Bible, Second Temple Judaism, Dead Sea Scrolls and Rabbinics to Rome.

He focuses on various aspects of the textual analysis of the Hebrew and Greek Bible, as well as the Qumran biblical manuscripts in Hebrew and Greek. Further he takes a special interest in the orthography of biblical manuscripts, the nature of the early Masoretic Text, the nature of the Qumran biblical texts and their importance for our understanding of the history of the biblical text, the editions of the Hebrew Bible, and the use of computers in biblical studies. The author also focuses on the interaction between textual and literary criticism and the question of the original text or texts of the Hebrew Bible. His special interests in the Qumran scrolls include the nature of the Qumran corpus, their scribal background, the contents of the various caves, and the number of the compositions and copies found at Qumran. His interest in the Septuagint translation evolves around its text-critical value, the Greek texts from the Judean Desert, and translation technique.

Qumran And The History Of The Biblical Text

by Frank Moore Cross, Qumran And The History Of The Biblical Text Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Qumran And The History Of The Biblical Text books, The discovery of manuscripts in Qumran--the Dead Sea Scrolls--and other sites in the Wilderness of Judah has stimulated a period of unparalleled activity in the study of the biblical text. Students and teachers in this field are overwhelmed with the thousands of articles that have appeared in hundreds of journals in the last thirty years. The older handbooks surveying biblical textual criticism have become hopelessly obsolete. Frank Cross and Shemaryahu Talmon have designed a collection of essays to help the serious student find his way in this transformed field of research. Some of the essays are general surveys, some propound new theories, several publish manuscript data of revolutionary importance. The editors have contributed previously unpublished papers suggesting new approaches to the fundamental task of textual criticism. A list of published manuscripts or manuscript fragments from the Judaean Desert and a bibliography are included.

Die Lade Jahwes Im Alten Testament Und In Den Texten Vom Toten Meer

by Peter Christian Porzig, Die Lade Jahwes Im Alten Testament Und In Den Texten Vom Toten Meer Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Die Lade Jahwes Im Alten Testament Und In Den Texten Vom Toten Meer books, Das Buch untersucht die Entstehungsgeschichte aller alttestamentlichen Texte, in denen von der „Lade Jahwes“ oder „Bundeslade“ die Rede ist, also insbesondere Exodus 25. 40; Numeri 10; Josua 3f. 6-8; 1. Samuel (1-3.) 4-6; 2. Samuel 6; 1. Könige 8 und Parallelen; Jeremia 3,16 und Psalm 132. Dabei wird versucht, sich nicht von vorgegebenen übergeordneten Modellen leiten zu lassen, sondern diese von den Einzeltexten her zu prüfen. Im Ergebnis zeigt sich, dass Anzahl und Umfang alter, vorexilischer Quellen erheblich geringer sind als bisher angenommen. Lediglich in 1.
