The Labeling Of Sex Offenders

by Sean Maddan, The Labeling Of Sex Offenders Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The Labeling Of Sex Offenders books, The Labeling of Sex Offenders contributes to the research on the effects of sex offender registration and notification policies using the labeling perspective. The labeling perspective asserts that offenders who are labeled are more likely to re-offend; this is counter to sex offender registration policies, which assume that knowing the identity and whereabouts of sex offenders is imperative to the public's ability to protect itself. This research used criminal data from the State of Arkansas within the framework of a quasi-experimental design to evaluate the recidivism of the first three waves of sex offenders registered (1997-1999) vs. a comparison group of sex offenders from a decade earlier (1978-1989). Key variables used to explain specific and general recidivism included the application of an active label, prior exposure to formal and informal labels, the intensity of the label, race, sex, and age. The findings presented by Madden indicate that there is no statistically significant difference between the two groups of sex offenders in terms of recidivism.

Sex Offenders

by Sean Maddan, Sex Offenders Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Sex Offenders books, This book is about sex offenders. Whereas most books will focus on either sex crimes or sexual deviance, this book examines the entire etiology of sex crimes. This includes discussions of the nature of sex crimes, sexual deviance, and, maybe most importantly, the processing of sex offenders through the criminal justice system. This includes sex offender interactions with law enforcement, the courts, and corrections. Corrections for sex offenders encompasses a myriad of programs: prison, sex offender registration and notification, civil commitments, residence restrictions, and treatment. One unique aspect of this book is its focus on criminal justice system’s treatment of sex offenders, given scant if any coverage in other books. The book also emphasizes two of the most common sex crimes, rape and sex offenses against children, and addresses the impact of sex crimes on victims. In sum, this book offers a comprehensive approach to the study of sex offenders.

Forensic Management Of Sexual Offenders

by Robert Alan Prentky, Forensic Management Of Sexual Offenders Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Forensic Management Of Sexual Offenders books, This text reviews the major advances that have taken place over the past 20 years in the management of human sexual aggression. This work is intended to reflect what is known and what is not known about the most effective management practices and strategies for sexual offenders. It includes complete discussions of classification, assessment, and prediction. In addition, major controversies in the field are addressed with the goal of separating supposition from fact and myth from reality. By employing an empirical litmus test throughout, the authors are able to identify what is known; what are sound, yet empirically based, hunches; what is speculation; and what lies strictly in the realm of mythology. Written by a forensic psychologist and a forensic nurse, the book offers a unique dual perspective. With over 1400 references, this represents an important source of every facet of the management and disposition of known sex offenders.

Sexual Offenders

by James Horley, Sexual Offenders Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Sexual Offenders books, Is there an alternative way of treating sexual offenders beyond traditional psychiatry? Sexual Offenders explores and develops personal construct theory in terms of forensic and social psychology, and examines the possibilities for sexual offender assessment and therapy. Rather than viewing sexual offenders as having a mental illness or possessing a set of pathological personality traits, personal construct theory indicates that all people learn particular ways of understanding their own experience, and use these 'personal constructs' to anticipate the future. Through a variety of experiences, sexual offenders appear to develop a set of constructs that demands a particular understanding of themselves and other people. James Horley suggests that if they desire change sexual offenders can alter these constructs through psychotherapy. Sexual Offenders describes a number of techniques used by the author and other clinicians as well as presenting new and more dynamic approaches to psychological assessment. Based on over 20 years of the author's clinical and research work, this book will provide professionals and students in the field of forensic psychology and psychiatry with an alternative way of treating sex offender clients.

Confronting Rape And Sexual Assault

by Jody Clay-Warner, Confronting Rape And Sexual Assault Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Confronting Rape And Sexual Assault books, So serious are the topics of rape and sexual assault that the mere discussion of them is often avoided. In this book, Mary Odem and Jody Clay-Warner examine the complex and painful issue of sexual violence from various perspectives, including sociology, criminology, anthropology, public health, and women's studies. The inclusion of personal accounts from women who have been raped or threatened by rape makes this collection particularly accessible, compelling, and powerful. An essay details one woman's long struggle as a rape survivor, a poem describes the fear of rape and society's treatment of the victim, and a sonnet traces the journey from victim to survivor. Not only does this invaluable collection define and examine the prevalence of rape and sexual assault, but it analyzes social and institutional factors that contribute to their occurrence and provides strategies for prevention and change.
