The Great Transformation In Higher Education 1960 1980

by Clark Kerr, The Great Transformation In Higher Education 1960 1980 Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The Great Transformation In Higher Education 1960 1980 books, Clark Kerr, former President of the University of California and a leader in higher education policymaking, offers his views of the turbulent decades when colleges and universities scrambled to provide faculty and facilities for the burgeoning student population, only to be faced later with economic depression and subsequent conservatism. From his unique vantage point, Kerr offers insights into the role of higher education--its performance under pressure, its changing climate, its efforts to serve the multiplicity of demands made upon it, and its success or failure in meeting those demands.

Organizational Transformation In Higher Education

by Gary Hauck, Organizational Transformation In Higher Education Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Organizational Transformation In Higher Education books, Between the years 1981-1996, many American colleges experienced a period of decline due to the numbers of available students, economic trends, and national interests. Some of these schools were able to experience significant positive turnaround. At the same time, many institutions of religious higher education continued to decline, some to the point of closure. One Midwestern Christian college experienced a major turnaround. Evidence indicates in addition to turnaround, the school also went through a significant transformation process. This study investigated both the turnaround and transformation of the school as an integrated process. As such, it also serves as an example of an ethnographic case study in higher education.

Transforming Transformation In Research And Teaching At South African Universities

by Rob Pattman, Transforming Transformation In Research And Teaching At South African Universities Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Transforming Transformation In Research And Teaching At South African Universities books, What is transformation in contemporary South African higher education? How can it be facilitated through research and pedagogic practices? These questions are addressed in this edited collection by established academics and emerging research students from nine South African universities. The chapters give us access to students? worlds: how they construct, experience and navigate their complex spheres, on and off campus. By engaging with students as knowledge producers, we transform popular ways of thinking about race, gender, class, sexuality, disability and age as singular and natural markers of difference and diversity.ÿ Rather than taking diversity as fixed and rooted in nature, we explore how diversity is imagined and lived in particular contexts on and off campus.

Language Power Society

by Francis P. B. Moto, Language Power Society Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Language Power Society books, "Before 1994, South Africa supported 36 higher education institutions, as part of its apartheid legacy. Enforced racial segregation resulted in a plethora of institutions to accommodate specific racial and language groups, which were managed and professionally staffed mostly by white males. Financially, these higher education institutions were an enormous burden for the new state after 1994. This book examines the processes of restructuring following on the government's decision in 2001/2002: to radically reform the legacy of 'the geopolitical imagination of the apartheid planners' in higher education. This is an innovative attempt to get under the skin of what was clearly the most major intervention in South African higher education since 1959, utilising a set of site-based observers on each campus, and regular interviews with key informants at each case-study site. Since the merging of institutions was far-reaching but widely contested, the study gives descriptive information to analyse whether the mergers were helping towards advancing the causes of equity and increasing student access to higher education. A comprehensive range of institutions are covered; and the main researchers, all institutional insiders, represent strong diversity in training and perspectives" -- publisher's website.

Transformations In Higher Education Governance In Asia

by Darryl S. L. Jarvis, Transformations In Higher Education Governance In Asia Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Transformations In Higher Education Governance In Asia books, This book documents experimentation with various policy and governance approaches that produce structural differences in the composition and organisation of Asia’s higher education systems. In view of the wide variation in the public and private provision of higher education, it showcases how issues of access, equity and modes of participation are addressed, how institutional and programme quality are managed and how academic labour is treated and developed. The book both maps these differences and analyses the country-level dynamics, policy approaches and the problems faced by a variety of states in Asia in the race to develop competitive higher education systems. Focusing on the intersection of governance and higher education policy, it addresses the challenges facing higher education in Asia and the national responses of governments in terms of the organisation of the sector.
