Now that June is over it’s time to look back and reflect on what I read during the past month. I wish I could say that I read more last month but I didn’t. Haha. One of them isn’t even really a book, although it did come from Audible. But anyway, let’s get to it.
Sklars & Stripes by The Sklar Brothers
Ok, ok. I know this is cheating. But it’s on the goodreads website so I’m counting it anyway. Sklars & Stripes is an Audible.com comedy special by The Sklar Brothers, twin brothers who are also comedians. It’s a very entertaining as they travel around the United States because in each state they visit, they perform comedy that’s relevant to that state.I found myself laughing (and learning) as I listened.
The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han
This is another audiobook that I listened to. It felt like a classic YA book to me because it contained all of the things I love in YA: Summer, the beach, family, as well as a bit of a love triangle. Actually, I’m not even sure if that’s the right shape because there were A LOT of different relationships in this book. With that being said, I don’t think I’ll be reading the other books in the series because now that I’m getting older, I’m finding myself less interested in YA. But definitely pick this book up if you need a cute beach read this summer.
I’m Special by Ryan O’Connell
I picked this book up because I used to love reading Ryan’s work on Thought Catalog. His book is essentially a memoir where he shares stories about growing up, becoming (or trying) to become an adult, as well as his personal struggles. My Mom thought there was something wrong with me while I was reading this because I was laughing so hard. Ryan is a very talented writer and has a great sense of humor so even while he was writing about serious issues, he still managed to make the stories funny.
