Happy August! Hope you all have been having a nice Summer. On one hand I can’t believe how fast June and July went, but on the other hand I feel like I’ve been fitting in a lot of good things in my life! That includes reading, of course. 🙂
Virgin in the City by Alexa Riley
This book is exactly what it sounds like from the title! Haha. A quick romantic read about a young woman who is adjusting to living life in a city (it’s really non-specific, but in romance/erotica stories you don’t really need those kinds of details). She forms a VERY fast relationship with a professional fighter. All in all, exactly what I was looking for in this kind of a read. Alexa Riley is an author that I think I’ll be reading more of!
Pretty Little Liars by Sara Shepard
I had the option to read this for free with my Prime account so I decided to give it a shot! I’ve seen a good majority of the TV show so I felt like I already knew most of the story but it was fun to compare the similarities and differences. Will I read the rest of the series? Probably not. I found Book 1 to be very entertaining and I love the mystery aspect to the story, but I also think that at 26 I’m finding myself less interested in Popular YA.
While You Were Mine by Ann Howard Creel
This is a hard book to review because I really, really liked the story. But it was way too long. I felt like the author had a certain word count they wanted to hit and so they just covered each and every plot point as slowly as possible.
Here’s a quick summary of the plot if you find yourself interested in fiction that was set in the past. During WWII a young nurse named Gwen is living in NYC. She has a roommate who is pregnant while her husband is off fighting in the war. After the birth of the baby the roommate leaves town and Gwen is left to raise the baby on her own, with the help of her neighbors. Eventually the the war ends and the baby’s father returns and Gwen is faced with the challenge of helping the child transition into getting to know her father.
Reading Goals for August
I think my goal for August is going to be to read 5 books this month. I don’t think that should be too much of an issue because I’ll be taking a vacation to Los Angeles, California near the end of the month. I’m hoping to spend a lot of time lounging by the pool with my books.
What did you read this month?
