A History Of Communications

by Marshall T. Poe, A History Of Communications Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download A History Of Communications books, A History of Communications advances a theory of media that explains the origins and impact of different forms of communication - speech, writing, print, electronic devices and the Internet - on human history in the long term. New media are 'pulled' into widespread use by broad historical trends and these media, once in widespread use, 'push' social institutions and beliefs in predictable directions. This view allows us to see for the first time what is truly new about the Internet, what is not, and where it is taking us.

Speaking Into The Air

by John Durham Peters, Speaking Into The Air Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Speaking Into The Air books, Communication plays a vital and unique role in society-often blamed for problems when it breaks down and at the same time heralded as a panacea for human relations. A sweeping history of communication, Speaking Into the Air illuminates our expectations of communication as both historically specific and a fundamental knot in Western thought. "This is a most interesting and thought-provoking book. . . . Peters maintains that communication is ultimately unthinkable apart from the task of establishing a kingdom in which people can live together peacefully. Given our condition as mortals, communication remains not primarily a problem of technology, but of power, ethics and art." —Antony Anderson, New Scientist "Guaranteed to alter your thinking about communication. . . . Original, erudite, and beautifully written, this book is a gem." —Kirkus Reviews "Peters writes to reclaim the notion of authenticity in a media-saturated world. It's this ultimate concern that renders his book a brave, colorful exploration of the hydra-headed problems presented by a rapid-fire popular culture." —Publishers Weekly What we have here is a failure-to-communicate book. Funny thing is, it communicates beautifully. . . . Speaking Into the Air delivers what superb serious books always do-hours of intellectual challenge as one absorbs the gradually unfolding vision of an erudite, creative author." —Carlin Romano, Philadelphia Inquirer

Communications And History

by Paul Heyer, Communications And History Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Communications And History books, This innovative volume selectively assesses three centuries of inquiry into the role of communications in the history of civilization. It challenges the conventional assumption that inquiry into the human consequences of living in a communications-dominated age began in the middle of the twentieth century as a response to omnipresent technology. Beginning with the eighteenth-century Enlightenment, Heyer shows how scholars as well known as Rousseau and as obscure as Monboddo were concerened with the historical dimension of aspects of social communication. Heyer approaches his subject as a problem in intellectual history and social thought, includes major twentieth-century thinkers who deal with the communications/history question, and concludes his study with an appraisal of the work of several contemporary researchers who have attempted detailed studies of specific media or historical periods.

Walter Hagemann

by Thomas Wiedemann, Walter Hagemann Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format.
