Self Help In Mental Health

by T. Mark Harwood, Self Help In Mental Health Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Self Help In Mental Health books, Self-help is big business, but alas not a scienti c business. The estimated 10 billion—that’s with a “b”—spent each year on self-help in the United States is rarely guided by research or monitored by mental health professionals. Instead, marketing and metaphysics triumph. The more outrageous the “miraculous cure” and the “r- olutionary secret,” the better the sales. Of the 3,000 plus self-help books published each year, only a dozen contain controlled research documenting their effectiveness as stand-alone self-help. Of the 20,000 plus psychological and relationship web sites available on the Internet, only a couple hundred meet professional standards for accuracy and balance. Most, in fact, sell a commercial product. Pity the layperson, or for that matter, the practitioner, trying to navigate the self-help morass. We are bombarded with thousands of potential resources and c- tradictory advice. Should we seek wisdom in a self-help book, an online site, a 12-step group, an engaging autobiography, a treatment manual, an inspiring movie, or distance writing? Should we just do it, or just say no? Work toward change or accept what is? Love your inner child or grow out of your Peter Pan? I become confused and discouraged just contemplating the choices.

Behavioral Integrative Care

by William T. O'Donohue, Behavioral Integrative Care Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Behavioral Integrative Care books, Integrated care is arguably one of the most important developments in the delivery of health care over the last few years. This new approach to health care, roughly defined as the provision of behavioral or mental health care in a way that is more coordinated with the primary medical healthcare setting, has the focused goal of providing a more complete care for the patient. This book focuses on three main content areas. Firstly, the treatment of psychological problems in the context of primary medical care will be addressed in several chapters. Secondly, several chapters address co-morbid psychological factors that play a key role in the effective medical management of physical diseases, either acute or chronic. Finally, several chapters address issues relevant to the overall practice of integrated care. This book is intended to extend and bridge the existing literatures of integrated care, behavioral medicine, consultation-liaison psychiatry, medical cost offset, and healthcare economics, by providing a comprehensive and current handbook of the clinical protocols that might be applied to the practice of integrated care.

Building Family Competence

by Luciano L'Abate, Building Family Competence Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Building Family Competence books, The crisis state that personal and family problems seem to reach before professionals are consulted is unnecessary - the author of this volume argues that prevention is as much the key factor in family therapy as it is in other areas of health promotion. L'Abate develops long-term, theoretically-driven, comprehensive strategies to prevent and ameliorate family problems. He points to the growing importance of primary and secondary prevention as a method of meeting this need and proposes evaluation and enrichment activities as well as a hierarchy of professionals to be employed at specific levels of family competence.
