The Bravest Of The Brave

by Maj Gen Ian Cardozo, The Bravest Of The Brave Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The Bravest Of The Brave books, Indian soldiers had rallied bravely before to many a skirmish outside their frontiers, but never with as much conviction and in stellar numbers than in the greatest of them all-the First World War. Some of the compulsion to fight, fiercely and loyally, and most-times with tragic consequences to themselves, was to earn the respect of-and consequent independence from-the Raj. Which it did... in time. But the first and foremost result was the laurel bestowed by the VC, on the soldier without a recognized name or nationality, for fearless bravery in another's battle. In this larger story, Cardozo recounts the events that saw the first and only 11 Indian bearers of the Victoria Cross, at the same time giving a nod to the 'enemy' soldier wherever it was due. For every soldier-yours, mine, theirs-is also an officer and a gentleman.

The Bravest Of The Brave

by A. Hilliard Atteridge, The Bravest Of The Brave Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The Bravest Of The Brave books, The life of one of the most notable of Napoleon's marshals There are few students of the Napoleonic epoch who require much introduction to the character of Marshal Ney. In an empire of many courageous men who would stand at the emperor's side, Ney was one of the most charismatic and outstanding. Though he rose to the highest rank, he ever had the sensibilities of a cavalryman and with his raw courage, blunt manner, ruddy complexion and habit of exposing himself to the heart of the action he justifiably earned his sobriquet, 'the Bravest of the Brave.' As with most of the soldiers who were closest to Napoleon, Ney was present on many fields of conflict throughout the period of the Napoleonic Wars, but it is perhaps telling that for many it is the image of Ney standing in the snows of the disastrous retreat from Moscow, among the very last men of the rearguard fending off the harassing Cossacks, that resonates in the mind. Ney it was too who continually hurled himself among the futile waves of massed cavalry as they tried to sweep Wellington's infantry of the ridge at Waterloo. And it was Ney, of course, perhaps finally a victim of his own reckless impulses, who faced the firing squad for his volte face and support for Napoleon during the fateful 'Hundred Days.' This biography by Atteridge is a well regarded classic and an essential addition to any library of the Napoleonic era. Leonaur editions are newly typeset and are not facsimiles; each title is available in softcover and hardback with dustjacket; our hardbacks are cloth bound and feature gold foil lettering on their spines and fabric head and tail bands.

It is destined to take a prominent plasce among the classics of primary Civil War literature." GORDON C. RHEA, author of in the Footsteps of Grant and Lee. "Stephen Dodson Ramseur well represented that class of aggressive young generals to whom Robert E. Lee entrusted his Army of Northern Virginia in battle. These letters effectively recapture the life and character of an educated and articulate Southerner who remained both convinced of the rightness of his cause and truly devoted to his family and friends until he fell in battle at Cedar Creek in October 1864." Marshall Ney

by A. H. Atteridge, Marshall Ney Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Marshall Ney books, A.H. Atteridge's biography of Michel Ney, Napoleon's most famous marshal, is a classic work of its kind.He describes Ney's meteoric career in vivid detail, from his enlistment as a hussar in the army of Louis XVI, his rapid promotion through the ranks of the revolutionary armies and his long service under Napoleon. Ney's pugnacious character and his capacity for inspiring leadership come across strongly in innumerable actions across 25 years of almost constant warfare. Particularly striking are the author's accounts of Ney's contribution to Napoleon's most famous campaigns - Ulm and Austerlitz, Jena, Eylau and Friedland and the catastrophic march on Moscow. Ney's last battle, Waterloo, and his subsequent execution by the returning Bourbons form the last chapter of this fascinating story.

Marshal Ney Bravest Of The Brave

by Andrew Hilliard Atteridge, Marshal Ney Bravest Of The Brave Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Marshal Ney Bravest Of The Brave books, Few of Napoleon’s Marshals have been involved in such controversy as the son of a cooper from Sarrelouis, Michel Ney. His reputation has been argued over fiercely by military historians, Bonapartists, revisionists and romantics for almost two centuries since his untimely demise at the hands of his own countrymen in the gardens of the Luxembourg. This volume paints a sympathetic picture of Marshal Ney, drawing on the memoirs of his subordinates and Général Bonnal’s Vie Militaire du Maréchal Ney to combine into the best single volume biography yet published in English. Atteridge writes concisely but vividly, and does not shy away with the controversies that have dogged Ney’s reputation, whilst providing a clear framework of the events. The details are accompanied by numerous maps, including excellent details on the often overlooked Battle of Hohenlinden in 1800 which secured the French Republic. From the early days of the French Republic, Ney fought fiercely and with much skill, through to the dark days of the retreat from Russia in 1812 in which he saved the remnants of the vast army Napoleon led to their destruction. His actions in the Hundred Days, for which he lost his life in a trial whose outcome was predetermined, are analyzed clearly and he deserved a better lot than he received for his efforts. Ney was a pivotal figure in an era of giants and Atteridge’s book does him the justice his brave and valorous character demands. Highly recommended. Atteridge’s book forms a companion to his other single volume biography of Marshal Murat and his work on the varied personalities on Napoleon’s Brothers. Author- Andrew Hilliard Atteridge (1844–1912) Linked TOC and 8 Illustrations and 8 maps.

Bravest Of The Brave

by H. Alden Fletcher, Bravest Of The Brave Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Bravest Of The Brave books, Bravest of the Brave is a chronicle of the life and adventures of David Porter, whose career spanned the formative years of the U.S. Navy, 1796-1843. He rose through the ranks from Midshipman to Commodore. He fought in the Quasi-French War, in the Tripolitan War and against the pirate, Jean Lafitte. During the War of 1812 he took his ship, the frigate U.S.S. Essex, around Cape Horn. It was the first time an American warship entered the Pacific Ocean. There he fought the British and also the Typees in the Marquesas Islands. The voyage ended with a major battle with two British warships at Valparaiso, Chile. After the war he became on of the three Commissioners of the Navy. He was assigned to rid the Caribbean of pirates. During this endeavor he became involved in a controversial decision that resulted in his court-martial. The novel, based on his own writings as well as other historical documents about the period, transports the reader through the tumultuous times of the early Republic. America faced perils not unlike today, aggression abroad from pirates and even attacks at home on American soil. David Porter's courage and bravery at a time of great danger to his country were instrumental in the successful termination of the threats and the development of the U.S. Navy. Porter summarizes his life in an excerpt from a letter he wrote shortly before his death. "There was a time when there was nothing that I thought too daring to be attempted for her (my country); but those times are past, and appear only as a confused and painful dream. A retrospect of the history of my life seems a highly-colored romance, which I should be very loath to live over again; and it would not be believed, if it was written."
